Solitude Links Wedding Photography and Videography in Kimball, Michigan

With a waterfront ceremony setting, expansive views of the golf course and reception spaces filled with natural light, Solitude Links offers plenty of variety for wedding photography and videography. We have filmed two weddings at Solitude Links Golf Course & Banquet Center in Kimball, Michigan. Although both couples celebrated at the same venue, their weddings looked and felt completely different. Danielle and Corey created a warm late-summer celebration filled with maroon, gold and cream, while Jamie and Tyler went with a bold, gothic-inspired style. That versatility is one of the things we appreciate most about Solitude Links. The natural landscape can complement a soft and romantic wedding just as easily as it can provide contrast for something darker and more unconventional.

About Weddings at Solitude Links

Solitude Links is located at 5810 Flinchbaugh Road in Kimball, Michigan, just outside Port Huron in St. Clair County. Couples can hold their ceremony and reception on the same property, which helps simplify the wedding day timeline and reduces travel for the couple, wedding party and guests. The venue’s outdoor ceremony takes place beside the lake beneath a gazebo. The open water and surrounding golf course landscape create a scenic backdrop without requiring elaborate ceremony décor. Solitude Links also offers four reception spaces for celebrations ranging from approximately 30 to 400 guests. On-site accommodations are available at Solitude Inn on the Green, and the venue offers an indoor ceremony backup when Michigan weather does not cooperate. For photographers and videographers, keeping the ceremony, reception and portrait locations together gives us more time to document what is happening and less time spent packing equipment or traveling between locations.

Danielle and Corey’s Late-September Wedding

Danielle and Corey held their Solitude Links wedding in late September on a warm, sunny day that still felt like summer. Their mid-size wedding featured a rich color palette of maroon red, gold, cream and gray.

Their ceremony took place outside beneath the gazebo with the large lake at the center of the golf course behind them. The water, greenery and open sky created a naturally layered backdrop for their ceremony footage.

One of our favorite moments happened before the ceremony when Danielle and Corey privately read their vows. Private vows give couples an opportunity to slow down and speak openly to each other before the formal ceremony begins. From a videography perspective, they also add a more personal narrative to the finished wedding film.

Their reception was held in a second-level space with large windows and access to an expansive outdoor deck overlooking the golf course. The windows brought natural light into the room, while the deck gave guests a place to step outside and enjoy the view throughout the evening.

Later in the day, we brought Danielle and Corey onto the golf course for portraits and video. Moving away from the reception for a few quiet minutes gave them a chance to reconnect while we captured the open landscape and warm evening light.

Danielle and Corey:

“We loved our wedding video! It captured all of the important highlights 😊”

Jamie and Tyler’s Gothic-Inspired August Wedding

Jamie and Tyler celebrated their wedding at Solitude Links in late August. Like Danielle and Corey, they held their ceremony outside at the waterfront gazebo before moving upstairs for their reception.

Their wedding demonstrated just how dramatically a couple’s personal style can transform the venue. Jamie and Tyler chose a dark, gothic-inspired aesthetic built around ruby red, black and pink. Jamie wore a stunning black wedding dress with intricate lace detailing. Tyler paired a red velvet suit with a floral-print jacket and a gold pocket watch.

Every element felt intentional, and their style carried consistently through the attire, colors and overall atmosphere of the wedding.

The green landscape and bright summer setting provided a striking contrast against Jamie’s black dress and Tyler’s deep red suit. This allowed their wardrobe and color palette to stand out beautifully in the wedding film while still incorporating the lake, gazebo and the scenery associated with Solitude Links.

Their wedding is a great example of why couples do not need to match a venue’s expected style. The same waterfront location that complements a light and romantic wedding can also serve as a backdrop for something dramatically fashionable and completely personal.

The Best Photography and Videography Locations at Solitude Links

Based on our experience filming at the venue, these are some of the strongest locations to incorporate into a Solitude Links wedding day.

The Waterfront Gazebo

The gazebo is the signature ceremony location. Its position beside the lake gives photographers and videographers depth behind the couple rather than a flat or distracting background. The movement of the water, surrounding landscape and open sky also add visual interest to video especially for wide establishing shots that introduce the ceremony.

The Golf Course

The golf course provides room to create portraits that feel open, natural and cinematic. It is particularly effective for wide shots of the couple walking together and quiet, candid moments away from the reception. Because the property offers several different directions and backgrounds, couples can receive visual variety without leaving the venue.

The Overlook Deck

The large deck overlooking the property is useful for both candid coverage and couple portraits. It provides an elevated view of the golf course while remaining close to the reception. It can also be a convenient location when the timeline does not allow enough time to travel farther onto the course.

Planning for Golden Hour Wedding Photos and Video

If the weather and timeline allow, we recommend setting aside approximately 15 to 20 minutes later in the evening for couple portraits on the golf course.

This does not need to become a long, heavily posed photo session. A short break from the reception is usually enough to capture some intimate moments with the couple.

The exact timing will depend on the wedding date and sunset. Your photographer and videographer can check the sunset time beforehand.
